TD Synnex to Acquire BlueStar, Expanding POS and Automated Retail Tech Portfolio

Global technology distributor TD Synnex has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire BlueStar, a Kentucky-based specialty distributor of point-of-sale, digital signage and mobility technologies, in a deal that consolidates a key supply channel for self-service and retail technology. The acquisition would expand TD Synnex's presence in automatic identification and data capture, radio-frequency identification, robotics, networking and security systems, according to a press release. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, and financial terms were not disclosed. BlueStar, headquartered in Hebron, Kentucky, distributes technology products and services through value-added resellers, systems integrators and managed service providers, and has developed expertise in technologies used across retail, hospitality and logistics. TD Synnex said combining BlueStar's specialized distribution capabilities with its global resources would broaden product offerings and create additional opportunities for customers, vendors and channel partners. TD Synnex serves more than 150,000 customers in over 100 countries. BlueStar CEO Ryan Girvin said the proposed acquisition would give the company access to additional resources while maintaining its focus on specialized products and customer support, while TD Synnex North America President Reyna Thompson highlighted BlueStar's expertise in point-of-sale systems, RFID and mobility as a complement to the existing portfolio. Both businesses will continue operating independently until the deal closes. For kiosk and unattended retail operators, the deal signals further consolidation among the distributors that supply POS hardware, kiosk components and payment technology to the market.
