Nova Scotia Alcohol Vending Company Expands Into Major U.S. Sports Venues

Dispension Industries Inc., a Nova Scotia-based company specializing in automated alcohol vending machines, is expanding its presence in major U.S. sports and entertainment venues following successful installations at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, according to a CP24 report. The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia company's two machines at Dodger Stadium generated more than $200,000 in sales over the past year, according to founder and CEO Corey Yantha. Dispension recently launched its technology at Empower Field at Mile High, home of the NFL's Denver Broncos, through a partnership with food service provider Aramark. The machines use identity verification technology to automate sales of canned alcoholic beverages. Customers insert identification documents, which are examined with ultraviolet and infrared scanning to verify authenticity, age and expiration dates, and a camera compares the customer's face with the identification photo before the machine dispenses a pre-opened beverage. The 25-employee company previously deployed machines at Canadian venues including Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and Mary Brown's Centre in Newfoundland, and Yantha said it is negotiating additional installations at NBA, NHL and college sports venues. The company's primary challenge, he said, has shifted from developing the technology to expanding production capacity. For operators, the expansion is evidence that age-verification vending is becoming a viable format in high-traffic venues, with identity checks doing the compliance work staffed concessions normally handle.
